CRA Intro

President Trump has a unique power, one that other previous presidents did not have. In one single term, Trump was able to appoint two judges to the Supreme Court. He first chose Neil Gorsuch, and now he must pick another one and he has picked Brett Kavanaugh. But is he the best choice to keep the Supreme Court balanced, one that will be beneficial for our future controversial issues? By exploring different informative sources, it can be found that the medium that the information being sent through can affect what is expressed and how the issue is portrayed. Therefore, we will compare three different sources to discuss the similarities and differences on how they deliberate about Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation. The mediums that will be used in this paper will vary from a simple news article to a provocative tweet.

CRA Topic: Brett Kavanaugh

My subject will be regarding the nomination and confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court justice. This is an issue that is being widely discussed due to the political balance of the Supreme Court and people were unsure if he would be best for the Supreme Court’s panel. Most presidents in our past have not had an opportunity to nominate a Supreme Court Justice and since this President Trump’s second time nominating one in one term, people are fervently debating who would he should pick and who would be the best choice to put on the panel. I chose this topic because there are many views concerning his nomination and it was controversial if Kavanaugh’s views would be beneficial for our country’s future. Many mediums and media outlets discuss this issue by explaining his background and what his political views consist of. They primarily talk about his education, previous experience in the court system and what he has done as a judge to make a difference in his community. ...

Slavery and Robots: Is there a connection?

Throughout this article, Joi, a devoted Shinto, elaborates on why westerners fear the creation of robots and the ramifications of them being in the presence of our daily lives. He explains that in western culture the fear manifested due “our different religious contexts” (pg. 1) and our history. Although we have robots portrayed in media often, he states that our culture still prevents us from accepting them. On the other hand, Shintoism enforces that no object or being is greater than the human kind; they are our equals and should be grateful for their existence. For Joi to prove his point, he delves deep into western culture and realizes that if robots were to come, history would be repeated. He explains that it would be like slavery all over again – “Dehumanization and the notion of ownership and economics gave birth to slavery at scale” (pg. 3). In western culture, there has been a constant pattern of people attempting to assert dominance over others who seem like a threat to ...

Is Amanda Hess fair in her article?

Should women really be on the internet, or should they stay clear? Amanda Hess discusses this subject in her article, “WHY WOMEN AREN'T WELCOME ON THE INTERNET,” in depth. She illustrates various examples in her life where she has been victimized by cyber bullying and includes other women’s experiences with degrading threats about rape and death. The article is scattered with Hess’s personal experiences and other situations of other women in power to demonstrate that women in higher standing are targeted more in fear of them having a voice and having more prominence in current events. She includes instances that belittle women, varying from rape threats to a predator posting inappropriate videos on YouTube. She states all these examples to show that women are constantly victimized for their gender and are taken advantage and objectified unwantedly online, particularly Twitter. If women have any influence in social media, they are seen as having too much power and should tone i...
